Piggly Wiggly Gets Cultured

The Pink Palace Museum is housed in what was the home/mansion of the founder of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store chain. (I know it seems strange to have the words museum and Piggly Wiggly in the same sentence, but go with it.) The Palace features a natural history section, an IMAX theater, and an especially great section covering the history of Memphis. Well worth a visit.

What I love most about historical museums are the dioramas. And by dioramas I mean scenes meant to terrify children. What other motivation could possibly explain this:

“No, I don’t think I’m cutting off too much of your leg to get rid of that nasty foot wound. Now be quiet and try not to claw your eyes out from what’s sure to be the most pain you’ve ever felt in your life. Ha ha!”

Or this:

“Don’t be nervous, Emily. This little leech is your friend! A slimy little friend ready to suck those melancholy-lady-problems right out of you.”

Or this:

“Why, no, I don’t believe in murderous demons that walk the earth and rest in the offices of oblivious old-timey doctors. Why do you ask, Billy?”
