Winding Down from Zoomania

This will be my last San Diego Zoo post for a while, I promise. I don’t even like zoos – they make me sad, with all the captives on display for the humans – but this zoo in particular is a photographer’s dream. I posted here about animal cuteness, animal texture, and this time it’s mostly flora, with flamingos thrown in for good measure. Because, you know, flamingos.

Nothing says San Diego to me like hibiscus. Except maybe fish tacos.

Leaves and Sky at the San Diego Zoo

Hibiscus is the only one of these I know the name of. From here on out it’s the Pretty Plant.

Well, I do know this is a succulent.

Pretty plants and a waterfall. I get half a point.

And now, wait for it…

Ta da! Flamingos.

I think the color of flamingos is so stunning and I love your photo. I’m also with you on disliking zoos. And I believe that if we are causing an animal to go extinct, then we should accept the fact that it is going extinct and not try to save a few in zoos

Gypsy – Glad you liked it! Apparently they eat shrimp, which colors their feathers? A young boy informed me of this when I was there, and I thought he was kidding but apparently it’s true.

I think of zoos differently now that kiddo is around. I’m sure in just a few years, she will be outraged so I’m going to enjoy our time together at zoos while I can. Beautiful photos!

Manisha – Good point about zoos with kids, so do enjoy them before the inevitable outrage. (That made me laugh.) And thanks, as always, for the kind words.
