I’m back! What an amazing experience Tanzania was, and I’m excited to share it with you. I’m just getting over jet lag and a post-trip cold, but I thought I’d start us off with a bang and share one of the most special moments from the safari: dining with a leopard in the Serengeti.
Our tour guide (the outstanding Jim from Safaris-R-Us) told us it’s relatively rare to see the elusive leopard on safari, but we were gifted with this encounter a few days in. It was just one of a few moments we had witnessing the brutal and beautiful circle of life that’s thankfully thriving in this National Park.
Yep, that would be a half-eaten gazelle on the left, and one fat and happy leopard on the right. Leopards will drag their kill up into the tree so no other predators can get to it. Imagine the strength and agility it took to get it up there!
We drove around to get a different view, and I zoomed in a bit more to get this image of her enjoying a post-meal nap. But then…
…she woke up. Eye to eye with a leopard? Priceless.
There’s lots more to come starting next week. (Also, I need to finish up Ireland and Scotland!)

Susi – Our guide was pretty sure it was a female, and yes, she did see me coming because those Land Rovers aren’t terribly quiet, ha. I agree about relaxing – her posture is gorgeous. And I’m feeling better, thank you, now that I’ve started looking at these photos. 🙂

Emilie – I know! She was absolutely gorgeous, healthy and regal. I’m so grateful for everything I experienced on this trip – Tanzania is amazing, and I plan to go back in two years. I absolutely fell in love with the country – culture, people, creatures.
