And Yes, I Think I Saw Them Move

Not only is Roswell the Dairy Capital of the Southwest (not the world, as reader Scooter LaHooter helpfully pointed out), it’s also home to a pocket of fine art goodness, with not an ET in sight. The Roswell Museum and Art Center has a good collection of Indian artifacts:

Not only do I love dying towns, I love headstones. I know.

When, oh when will moccasins make a comeback?

Plus it’s got the big guns in Georgia O’Keeffe:

And Marsden Hartley:

As well as a whole lot of Peter Hurd and some Henriette Wyeth. Very respectable stuff.

And though I’m a huge O’Keeffe fan (okay, fanatic), I generally like my art a little wilder. RMAC had a lot of that, too, and no, don’t ask me who the artists are, I just took pictures. And yes, I know I’m a terrible blogger because I didn’t take notes. I’ll drink my way through my shame later, but here’s some cool stuff for your ocular satisfaction:

You’re getting very sleepy…

Snails and roosters and rhinos, oh my!

I think this is Larry Bob Phillips, though you can’t pity him for having three first names when the work is this great:

Though you could pity him for how much acid he’s obviously done.

Lastly, there was this:

My post-Sadie future?

On Friday, we’ll visit Deming, NM, which also has a worthwhile museum, but theirs is scary. I’ll just say this: there are mannequins involved. See you then.
