Can’t Get Enough at Arches National Park

Last week I was at the spectacular Arches National Park in Utah.

Sure, it was hot and there were a ton of tourists, but it was still a fabulous visit. This is a must-see national park, with gorgeous vistas and interesting rock formations at every turn. Definitely don’t miss the hike (flat and not long) to Landscape Arch, which caps the end of the drive through the park.

I took a ton of photos, and I’m wondering if you’ll do me a favor. I’m curious to know which shots appeal to you the most, so if you have a minute, would you leave a comment and give me the numbers of those you like best? (Each photo is numbered below it, and you can see a slide show by clicking on the big photo.)

What do you think? I’m hoping you’ll let me know. (And if you don’t have the time or interest to comment – put Arches on your list!)

It was hard to choose which one appealed to me the most. They are all beautiful. I liked the drama of the black and whites but the colors of the rock formations against the blue of the sky also spoke to me. You have a beautiful artistic eye.

Jennifer – Thank you chiming in, and the kind words!

Okay, this probably won’t be much help. I went through the slideshow once and came up with my favorites as being 1, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13. I thought, “Hmm, I should narrow that down.” So I went through it a second time and couldn’t decide on any of them to eliminate! haha

Deborah – It helps! Thanks so much.

They are all beautiful, but if I MUST choose: 3,5,9,12,13 are spectacular!

Peter – I’m so glad you like them, and thank you for voting!

It’s no fair having to choose because they are all gorgeous, but here goes:
#1 – The combination of all the colors – clouds, sky, rock, trees, etc – makes a striking picture.

#9 – I love black and white photography to begin with; the arches are doorways to other worlds.

#13 – The feeling you get when your eyes take in the size of the rock as compared to the size of the stop sign makes this a stunning picture.

    I love them all!

Gypsy – I appreciate your thoughtful comments, but sorry for the injustice of the exercise (ha). Thanks for voting.

My favorite photo is #4. You were at my favorite park! It is awesome, isn’t it? Last year while we were in Moab, we didn’t make it into Arches and so now I’m missing it. I’ll have to think about adding this to our to-do list for this year’s trip to Moab. Did you get into Canyonlands? And if you are still there and have some more, make the hike to Corona Arch. We went last time and it was so worth the hike, especially watching people bungee swing off the arch. Oh, Deonne, I’m envious of you and your trip!!!!

Manisha – Thanks for voting! It’s a beauty of a park. I didn’t make it to Canyonlands, but I might this October. And now it sounds like I need to go back to Arches for that Corona hike!

You should think about meeting us there in November so we can hike to the Corona Arch together! On the way to one part of Canyonlands (it’s vast and huge!), there is a state park that is wonderful too (Deadhorse). But I like it much better from the Jeep trail below. Actually the trail is rated “mild” so it might be doable for any vehicle. Check it out. I can say that it’s worth the effort, we’ve done it several times. Also, Fisher Towers is beautiful and worth the hike as well. So much to do in Moab. That’s why we keep going back every year. — Manisha

P.S. We’ve also hiked Horeshoe Canyon where there is the a fantastic 100 foot panel of petroglyphs. I highly recommend that as well. Bright colors and amazing, it’s called the Great Gallery. It’s sort of attached to Canyonlands.

P.P.S. Corona Arch isn’t part of Arches N.P. It’s off the road from Moab that goes along the Colorado River. No fee and all the fun!

Manisha – Thanks for all this info! I could still be there in November – it’s an open-ended Scamp, as they all should be, ha – and if so then yes, let’s definitely meet up. Will you be there early or late? Email and let me know.

So hard to choose! They are wonderful.

    2, 3, 7, 9, 10 12 especially.

    • deonne at 4:50 pm #

Ericka – Thanks so much for voting!

  7. Janet at 4:14 pm #

They are all beautiful. 3, loved the path going over the hill. 9 looks twisted and like a tug of war going on. 12 looks like taffy is being pulled. 10, the clouds look yellow (at least on my computer) and not natural. 10 is just spectacular.

    • deonne at 4:52 pm #

Mom – Thanks for voting, and the comment about taffy being pulled made me laugh. Good call. The clouds in ten do look yellow – I went for a dreamier, more surreal treatment on that one, and it sounds like you don’t love it. Which one is spectacular? Did you mean to say ten?

      • Janet at 8:24 am #

No, didn’t mean 10. It should have been 13. If I have to pick one, it would be the black and white #9. Too many good choices.

  8. Jim Bago at 4:33 pm #

Enjoyed them all which is usual for your pictures and words. I particular like 1 and 12.

    • deonne at 4:52 pm #

Jim – Thanks for voting, and the kind words! Much appreciated.

Susi – I do love this park! Thanks so much for voting.

So spectacular! My favorite is the black and white one with the differing dimensions. Nicely done!

Roe – Thanks for the vote and kind words!

These photos so make me want to visit Arches! They are all unique and artistically alluring but if I have to choose I go for #2 and #13.
