At most National Parks, dogs aren’t allowed on trails that go into the parks. Meaning Sam the Wonder Pup does a whole lot of waiting.
Before anyone calls the SPCA on me, know that I’m HYPER careful about leaving Sam in the car for too long, and spend a ridiculous amount of time making sure the windows are rolled down just the right way to allow maximum air flow, as well as deter thieves looking for adorable, tailless canines. I never leave him in the car very long, and let him run around every chance we get.
This means I don’t get to do major hiking in the National Parks, but no matter. I’d much rather have Sam along than hike by myself any old day.

Although I’m sure you’re really careful about taking care of Sam, know that there are more and more places where it’s illegal to leave an animal in the car. I think this law is a good one, but it totally negates those who are responsible and take good care of their pets.
Too bad dogs aren’t allow on leashes. That would be the best!

Emilie – I do know about those laws, but thanks for the reminder. I agree about the leashes, but I also know how many irresponsible dog owners there are and what damage they could do in the parks and on the trails. Sad but true, hence the restrictions.
