Winter Solstice

My friend Susan picks a word to use as a touchstone for the year, and I liked the idea so much I’m giving it a shot for 2015. My word is emergence.

I’ve had a good run with my work this year, and it feels like I’m on the cusp of a big leap forward. I got a second solid draft of the novel done, opened an online gallery, had two photos in my first group show, and just found out I placed in a photography contest, another first. Plus I just started a show on KNCE 93.5 called Art Life Radio, where I talk to Taos creatives and spin tunes that have inspired their work.

New beginnings and lots of activity.

Winter Solstice was Sunday and normally I don’t pay much attention, but this year it seemed important. This was the sunset, and it illustrated my chosen word beautifully.

Winter Solstice Sunset

Last light before the longest night of the year.

I hope you’re enjoying the changing of the seasons, and anticipating good things in 2015. I’m so grateful we’re sharing the ride together.

P.S. I met up in Taos with blog reader Glenda and her husband Jeff, two lovely people. They’re full-time RVers in a 17′ Casita, (a cousin to the Scamp), so check out their blog for tips and stories about life on the road. And if any of you are ever passing through Taos, please let me know! I love to put faces to the names.

    Emergence. What a beautiful choice!
I will have to think about what my word could be. Scary that the first word I thought of was indulgence! I immediately discarded it, thankfully.
Beautiful photo of Solstice night. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Emilie – Let me know what word you land on! Though I do think if you’ve been denying yourself, indulgence is a good choice, ha. Happy holidays to you and yours.

    What’s your color, Deonne? 🙂
I thought picking a word for the year was an excellent idea too. Your radio show is da bomb! I’ll be a regular listener from afar.
Thank you for being an inspiration! I’m excited to see what 2015 has in store for the both of us.

Kathy – The color didn’t resonate for me, did it for you? You’ll have to let me know what your word is, and thank you for the kind words about the show. You should move to Taos so I can interview you. 🙂 I’m excited for us both, as well.

Actually, the color yellow came to me first. I still don’t have a word yet…maybe I’m trying too hard. 😉

I’d love to be interviewed on your show! Maybe you can come to California for a visit and do your show remotely? I can find a cool shack on the beach.

Kathy – Yellow is a great color, full of energy and light, and I’d say if the word doesn’t come to you easily, don’t worry about it. Now go find that beach shack. 🙂

  3. Yay!! I’m so glad you’re doing the word thing, and emergence is a wonderful word, very fitting. The show is so lovely, and I honestly can’t express how good it felt to do that with you. I wish many many blessings for you in 2015.

Susan – Thank you for the kind sentiments and enthusiasm for the show. I’ve been thinking about travel plans for the new year, so you may get to guest host more than you bargained for, ha. My very best to you for 2015!

Emergence! You are awesome and all those things you are doing? Awesome, too! Sounds like a bunch of dreams come true. I chose confidence for 2014 and it did me a world of good. I’m thinking about thrive for 2015 but that’s not quite right. Still working on it. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to drive through Taos and see beautiful you!

Manisha – I love the word thrive, but let me know what you land on for 2015. Cheers to you and your family, and maybe this will be the year we meet up face to face!

Wow so cool you already started your “emergence”. A perfect word for you for sure and it is gonna be AWESOME! Definitely will check out Glenda’s blog and continue reading yours. I’m still playing with the idea of the balloon rally next fall – maybe we’ll get to meet!
