Cape Flattery

Cape Flattery in Washington state is not, in fact, a place to go when you’re feeling insecure and need some praise.

It is the northwestern-most point in the lower 48, and also? It’s absolutely gorgeous.

It sits on the Strait of Juan de Fuca (best said out loud with an Inigo Montoya accent) and the Olympic peninsula and is well worth the drive. The nearest town is Neah Bay, part of the Makah Reservation, and here’s what the Makah people get to look at every day:

As I’ve said, this Scamp had no shortage of gorgeous beaches.

And here’s the cove at Cape Flattery:

I couldn’t stop watching (and photographing) the water running off the rocks.

It was hard to get this shot because I had Sam on leash, and he seemed intent on trying to pull me over the cliff and into the water.

Next up, I think I’ll tackle the photos from Olympic National Park, and there are a lot. Until then.

Lucky you! Shining sun and blue skies. When I got there it was very gray. Most of my photos looked as though they’d been taken in black and white. Every time someone asks me what the best part of my trip was, though, I say Cape Flattery. Absolutely stunning.

Emilie – Yes, I had good weather, though I liked your moody shots of the cape as well. It was gorgeous, wasn’t it? Truly special.

My two favorite shots in this post are the first and the last. I can’t decide which I like better. Breathtaking.

You are right those shots are LOVELY and I chuckled at your last comment as I seem to have that issue with a certain little black spoo too. Always a photographic challenge with a leash and dog! As always amazing shots and I hope you tell us all about your hike!!!

Sherry – Thank you! Sounds like you know exactly what I’m talking about. I kept saying, Sam, I’m trying to get some usable shots, but he didn’t seem to care and just kept on exploring and sniffing. Why, I have no idea. ๐Ÿ™‚

Awesome photos!!! I’m so glad you made it out there. We happened to have sunny weather throughout our trip in that area which made me feel like it was an unique and special trip. I dream about going to Cape Flattery again and hope to do so soon.
