Green Overload in the Hoh Rain Forest

Let’s start by getting all your jokes about the name out right now. I’ll go: If a tree falls in the rain forest, does a ho hear it? Ha ha! Hilarious!

Okay, enough. The Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park is no laughing matter – except for the URL for the link that says “visiting the hoh.” (Chortle.) But seriously, the Hoh is yet another reason that you must put Olympic National Park on your short list. It covers much of northwestern Washington, with enough varied terrain to satisfy anyone.

I shared one of the misty blue beaches last week, and this time it’s green, green, green:

It was raining the day I was there, no surprise, and moss drips from the trees.

Even the water is filled with green.

…and shrouded in moss.

Of course there are lots and lots of ferns.

These two trees are mated for life, apparently.

I was happy to find this natural arch on the trail.

…and this striking architecture.

Next time, it’s back to the beach.

My favorite picture from this set is the arch. As always, it was a tough choice!

Okay, my turn for a joke. My brother-in-law told me this probably 40 years ago. How can you tell which Miss America contestant is the prostitute? She’s the one wearing the sash that says “I-da-ho”!

    You started it. LOL!

Deborah – Ha! Love that. And thanks for voting. πŸ™‚

  2. That last photo strikes me as a visual counterpart to the tree-falling-in-the-forest koan – the ORIGINAL one, I mean πŸ™‚

The arch is a bonus find for sure!!! I so enjoy the rain forest, probably because it is so different from what we have. The lines int he last one make for a great shot!

Sherry – Yes to all that! I’ll be sharing two more rounds of Olympic photos, and I’d happily go back and shoot some more.
