I love when places have names like writing prompts.
Storrie Lake is a state park in New Mexico, near Las Vegas, and I was riffing on the name when I was there in December. As in, what’s the story at the lake? What could have happened there?
According to the website it was probably just a lot of fishing, boating, and windsurfing, but still – my writer’s mind started spinning tales involving all kinds of dramatic events.
But the landscape was simply lovely, no drama necessary.
It was cold and windy, and I was underdressed, but I managed to stay out long enough to capture the waves.
See the chunky white shards? Ice.
I don’t know where Sam was. Probably waiting by the Pilot, where it was warm.
It would be fun to go back and camp there some day. But maybe in the spring.
