Today I’m grateful for jigsaw puzzles.
Also friends and family and good men (one in particular), adorable dogs, my healthy body, and that ice cream that’s less than 300 calories a pint. (Don’t judge.)
Later today I’ll go to a friend’s house for dinner with my offering of roasted Brussels sprouts in Asian vinaigrette. I’ve never made it before, and I do love to try out new dishes and force loved ones to be guinea pigs. I guess I have a secret mean streak, though I haven’t had any complaints yet. π
Before that I’ll do some yoga, give Sam extra belly rubs, and maybe play guitar. But the big focus today will be this jigsaw puzzle:
I love jigsaw puzzles because you’re using your brain, but not so much that you can’t also sing along to the radio or even work out problems in the background. Sort of like getting ideas in the shower, but with clothes.
It also takes your mind off what seems like daily disheartening news in the U.S. and beyond. The puzzle calms me because it’s fun and just challenging enough, and when you’re done you have this pretty picture on the table – which you then tear apart and put back in the box. There’s pleasure in harmless destruction.
I hope you’re feeling grateful today, and every day. Despite darkness and strife, there’s always something to be glad for. I’m glad for you, and the ability to have conversations here and hopefully some fun, too. Thank you. Now go and eat something delicious, and we’ll talk tomorrow.
