I’ve said before that one of my favorite things about my quest to see all the National Parks is visiting the ones I’d never heard of, and being delighted with my discoveries, over and over.

Bandelier!
It’s fun to say it like that, isn’t it? A rallying cry, or something a pirate would yell. Yarr! Bandelier!
Plan B, Once Again
Moutainair, NM is where the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument visitor center is, and it also happens to be home to the Shaffer Hotel, where I was told they serve tasty meals. I’m always up for a tasty meal, so before my drive to Salinas I stopped in.
I’m Like the Yeti
It was a Scamping first. I had just woken up and gotten Sam into the Pilot in the Walmart parking lot in Las Vegas, NM, ready to head to Pecos National Historical Park, when a friendly looking woman hopped out of her RV, approached me, and said my name.

You’d be the crabby office worker who always had her door closed.” My mother is a wise woman.)
Spring in Northern New Mexico
Here in Taos we’ve gone from shorts and flip-flops to long pants and snow boots in just a few days. Sigh.
Mumford & Sons Take Over Taos
You know what it takes to grow Taos from its usual 7,000 people to 17,000 in just one day? Invite bigger-than-God Mumford & Sons to play in Kit Carson Park.
Photo of the Day: Crescent Moon in Taos
When I lived in New York City I hardly ever saw the sun or moon because they were blocked by tall buildings. I’d see a slice of sky, and that was about it. But here in Taos it’s another story.
