When I left San Diego, Bonnie and Roger suggested I stay at La Posada in Winslow, AZ because it’s a beautiful hotel, and a little more than halfway to Taos.

Face it, the Holidays Are About Decadence
‘Tis the season for shopping, drinking, and eating, and here are some of my favorites for all three in Tucson. (Anna, my dear friend and Tucson local, was my tour guide.)
How to Stand Out in Five Easy Steps
We’ve established Texas had its challenges for me, one of which was finding a meal not involving a dead cow or deep fryer, and about halfway in I was desperately seeking tofu. Scamp Porn 3: Thanksgiving Gluttony Warm-up (video)
What better way to get ready for the biggest food day in the U.S. than to do restaurant reviews? Today I’m covering three: Golden Light Café (Amarillo, Texas), Feldman’s Wrong Way Diner (Canyon, Texas), and Big Vern’s Steakhouse (Shamrock, Texas).

Midpoint Café (in Adrian on Route 66, at the west edge of town) sits, not surprisingly, at the midpoint of Old Route 66 between Chicago and L.A., 1139 miles to each. Adrian is small (pop. 150), and so is the café menu, pretty much just sandwiches and dessert.

(Thanks for sharing that story, Ginger! Didn’t even know that was a possibility!)
Silver City, New Mexico: Where Even Straight Florists are Welcome
When I was at the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum, I had chatted with two women at the reception desk, one in her 20s and one probably in her 70s. When I said I lived in Taos and was on my way to Silver City, the young woman said, “Silver’s funky, like Taos. You’ll love it.”
