It’s almost here – the first big Scampabout of the year. Road Trip USA 2014 Woohoo I’m So Excited and I Just Can’t Hide It!

Ahem. My plan, and I use this word  loosely since at the moment I don’t actually know where we’ll end up the first night out, is to go up the west side of Colorado (through the Rockies), onto Wyoming (visiting Yellowstone for the second time), and all the way to Glacier National Park on the Canadian border. (And maybe cross over if it’s not a problem with Sam.) Then we’ll come back down the east side of those states and hit even more National Parks. If all goes as I hope it will, we’ll see 16 of them on this trip, and then I’ll be close to triple digits on my list. Yay!

I’m also hoping to connect with friends and maybe even Mom on this trip, which will be a first, and something I’d love to make a regular thing for future Scampabouts.

My wonderful friend and super-talented photographer Lenny Foster took this shot the day Sam and I were on our way to Santa Fe to get a water pump fixed:

Sadie, Deonne, and Sam

Sam is licking his chops in anticipation of chasing a bunny he sees in the distance. Which, thank god, he didn’t catch.

My mother, who is a creative genius and whiz at all things handmade, made these fun new curtains, replacing the boring  ones Sadie came with:

I picked out the fabric – it’s Marimekko, a Finnish company – had it sent to Mom, then she made the curtains and shipped them  to me. One of a jillion reasons why I love my mother.

Lastly, Kahler Island has a new resident:

I’m thinking this little guy can keep an eye on things while we’re away.

I’ll be posting here and on Facebook while we’re gone. Stay tuned.
