Cows and Goats and Sheep, Oh My!

The Del Mar Fair in San Diego is a fun annual tradition I hadn’t experienced in a long time. And by long time, I mean the last time I did there was some ’80s hair band playing the Saturday night main stage and no one even thought it was ironic.

State and county fairs are a great way to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, which for me means bruise-inducing carnival rides, deep-fried everything, and adorable farm animals. Today we’ll look at the latter.

adorable sheep at the Del Mar Fair

This little guy is wearing a coat because he’s about to get shown off in the ring and needs to stay clean.

Curly goat at the Del Mar Fair

I’m sorry to say this is not a unicorn. (The other horn is hidden behind his curly pompadour.)

KKK goats at the Del Mar Fair

On the flip side of what you might hope for in a goat, these guys are also not what they seem, which is members of the KKK.

Insane goat at the Del Mar Fair

I have no idea what caused this one to deserve the straitjacket, but I shot this with a zoom lens just in case.

“Let us out.”

Sheep prison at the Del Mar Fair

“Seriously. Let us out.”

White cow at the Del Mar Fair

The ropes upset me, but then I’m a big ol’ mushball when it comes to animals. This is one gorgeous cow.

Smiling sheep at the Del Mar Fair

To end on a happier, less imprisoned note, you can’t tell me this little one isn’t smiling.

Love Fairs, the smells, Animals and food….. we have a lot of them around where I live. Still kids willing and wanting to do this sort of thing, a lot of work for them. America traditions live on in small towns and the country.

Shelley – Yes, I love the Americana of it all. It’s sweet and earnest.
