The Del Mar Fair in San Diego is a fun annual tradition I hadn’t experienced in a long time. And by long time, I mean the last time I did there was some ’80s hair band playing the Saturday night main stage and no one even thought it was ironic.
State and county fairs are a great way to enjoy the simple pleasures in life, which for me means bruise-inducing carnival rides, deep-fried everything, and adorable farm animals. Today we’ll look at the latter.

This little guy is wearing a coat because he’s about to get shown off in the ring and needs to stay clean.

On the flip side of what you might hope for in a goat, these guys are also not what they seem, which is members of the KKK.

I have no idea what caused this one to deserve the straitjacket, but I shot this with a zoom lens just in case.

The ropes upset me, but then I’m a big ol’ mushball when it comes to animals. This is one gorgeous cow.

Manisha – Glad you liked the pictures. It was quite the menagerie!
Love Fairs, the smells, Animals and food….. we have a lot of them around where I live. Still kids willing and wanting to do this sort of thing, a lot of work for them. America traditions live on in small towns and the country.
Shelley – Yes, I love the Americana of it all. It’s sweet and earnest.

It’s amazing how spending time around farm animals can create such memorable experiences and a deeper appreciation for rural life. I especially liked the way you captured the personalities and unique characteristics of the different animals—it reminds us that each one has its own quirks and charm.
