Okay, not really. But since I was just in Nebraska and those animals featured in my visit, I couldn’t resist.

Mom and I met at her cousin Delores’s place, where she lives with the titular animals as well as a donkey, some chickens, and her delightful husband, Mark. (Mark gets to sleep inside at night.) We had a wonderful time eating, talking, hanging out – pajamas all day! – and playing a new-to-me card game called “Oh, hell.” (Though I quickly took it from hell straight on to my favorite, more colorful, curse words.)

I also got to play with the new camera, and I am smitten. Smitten! What I’m not smitten with, however, is how heavy it is, so I’ll need to either a) develop Popeye-like biceps, or b) start using a monopod in most situations. I’m leaning toward the second option.

Because of unintentional blur, I can’t share any good photos of the perfectly photogenic chickens and donkey, but I did get these:

Horses in Nebraska

The horses seemed very interested in the camera and weren’t bothered by me hanging around in their corral one bit.

Beautiful creatures.

The donkey is in the back right. Mark told me he tethers the donkey to new horses to gentle them, which struck me as terribly sweet.

Buddy the Dog

Speaking of sweet, meet Buddy. Buddy and I were friends from the minute I drove up.

Miniature cow

I wasn’t kidding about the miniature cow. This is a Zebu, a Brahman breed from India. (Horse for scale.)

But back to the horses, which I couldn’t stop photographing.

Horses in Nebraska

I was fascinated by their muscle structure. Talk about photogenic!

Beautiful.

But this. This is my favorite image from the whole shoot. Such personality!
