Mom and I spent a long weekend in New Orleans for her birthday, and now that I’ve been there three times I had a realization. Aside from live music everywhere, fun, friendly people, and the ability to legally drink technicolored cocktails in the street, one other thing never gets old.

Emphatic in Buena Vista, Colorado
Buena Vista, CO is a tiny town northwest of Salida, and even though it’s a sleepy little burg, it’s not lacking in attitude. The coffee is strong (The Roastery is a must), the beer is hoppy (try Eddyline – the wood-fired pizza is good, too), and the signs are demanding:
Subterfuge at Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville
If you visit the South, you have to see at least one plantation. Songbirds and Greeks in Nashville
Nashville is home to Music Row, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and is the capital of Tennessee, but despite all that the city feels pretty soulless. (Whereas Memphis is loaded with soul, in all senses of the word.)

Photo of the Day: Sam the Wonder Pup in Repose
This photo is from awhile back, but it’s so sweet I thought it deserved making Photo of the Day. Let sleeping dogs lie:
Getting My Country On at the Grand Ole Opry
If you’re at all interested in country music, you have to stop at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and take the tour.
Photo of the Day: Moonset in Taos
Sam the Wonder Pup woke me early last week to see the moon setting. I love living in Taos.
Rolling in the Kitsch in Pigeon Forge
Pigeon Forge is the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, and to say that the two places are different is an understatement. The Great Smokies are these beautiful natural wonderlands, while Pigeon Forge looks like God threw up signs and parking lots. But that’s not to say I didn’t have a good time in Pigeon Forge.
